Window refurbishment

Today, we're having two of our sash windows refurbished. We've asked the guys (and gal) from the Mill House Window Workshop to have a go again, after they did such a good job the last time they were here.

I've picked the ones that are in most need of renovation, as both of them have the top pane stuck and are the most affected by wind and weather.

The kitchen one we haven't really opened at all since we've been here, as the top pane has no sash weights and drops down as soon as you loosen the catch.

Only the bottom pane of the bathroom window opened, the top one was absolutely stuck, but with a small gap at the top (good for ventilation, bad for heating).

So here we go, Oliver's team is back to help us out.

Setting up...

Window is out, new cords and the old weights are back in...

Stripping the straight edges of the windows...

Hmm, more rot than expected, and the old sill had to be removed, as it wasn't really sitting in the wall on either side and had already been patched a few times...

And here it is, freshly prepared...

Quick cup of tea before fitting it...

Watching the master at work...

Side cut to accommodate the new sill...

The newly fitted sill...

Repairs to the window sashes. You can also see the old numbering (this is window four).

One of the 'horns', after I started doing a bit more stripping...
