Rainy day

 Decisions, decisions.

How high the planter should be, how high the wall should be, how the wall should rise to the higher level, what the capping should be (brick on edge, tile creasing) etc, etc.

And all of that in the rain.

But the first planter is taking shape. It also looks like the lime mortar is 'going off' nicely. I just checked the brickwork that's now two days old, and the mortar has hardened considerably. Lovely.

The problem is, we think we might not have enough bricks. The OH is still counting and making projections. We've decided that below ground level, we're going to use every suitable brick and material that we find in our 'reclaim yard' at the back. That includes the awful textured concrete wall elements that we kept, which turn out to be the right size to replace a handful of bricks. It all helps to keep down the total number of extra bricks we need.

Note to self: next time, if in doubt, buy more stock!

Oh, and if the pointing you see on the wall and planter above looks a bit rough, it's because it still needs to harden before it's pressed in and then the excess brushed off.
