Out with the new, in with the old!

The corpus delicti, the uPVC window in our dining room.

Why we wanted to change it:

a) it was an eyesore
b) it was dangerous, as the bottom pane did not open, making escape harder in the event of a fire
c) when opened, it obstructed the passage between the kitchen door and the ginnel (see below).

Here is the way that it obstructs the side return, which made it easier to decide to change it...

Luckily, help was at hand... in the form of Oliver Kelly and his company, based in the hamlet of Bendish in Hertfordshire, located centrally between Harpenden, Hitchin, Luton, Stevenage and Welwyn Garden City.

The window looks lovely, and the fitters were great (and the tidiest workmen we've had in the house so far). We were so happy that I'm posting a link to their website here: http://sashwindowrepair.co.uk/.

Then the 'window furniture', as follows:-

a) fitch lock (lockable)

b) sash lift (x2, to lift the inner sash)

c) sash pull (to pull down the outer sash).

One happy OH!
