More fruit - thank you Freecycle
The OH collected a bag full of quinces from a lovely couple nearby, who were giving away these velvety fruits via Freecycle (ed. - now called Freegle where we are).
They're wonderfully perfumed, and I'll go with my new hero, Nigel Slater, and will let them sit in their basket, brightening up the room, until they soften - and then try to work out how to cook with them.
This year we were faster than the blackbirds, and managed to harvest the white grapes that were growing all over the pergola...
They taste lovely, but the skin is thick and sour, and they have very big pips, so unless you eat them outside, where you can spit the bits out onto the compost, they're a bit of a hassle to eat. So, in good old 'Konni manner', I turned them into something else, involving cooking and a lot of sugar...
Apologies if this has turned a little into a garden /cookery blog. I think it is because the last task to do with the house was so messy and exhausting, that we didn't manage to also take a picture: we were mixing the lime plaster for bricking up the old outside door to the downstairs toilet. So hopefully, as we're getting the brickie from up the road to continue with the work on that, we should be able to take some nice piccies.
